This is a practical point, especially for shrimp aquariums, aquascapes with controlled plant stock, and carefully planned layouts.

Another advantage is the selection. Many classic stem plants, ground covers, mosses, and epiphytes are available as In Vitro variants. Especially for small plants like Hemianthus callitrichoides, Micranthemum tweediei Monte Carlo, Eleocharis, or various Bucephalandra forms, one cup can be used effectively. For epiphytes such as Anubias, Bucephalandra, or mosses, the pieces are attached to roots and stones. It is important not to bury the rhizome in the substrate. Otherwise, it can rot. A suitable plant adhesive or a fine thread can be used for permanent attachment. Mosses need some patience at first, but benefit from clean water and moderate, even current.

Realistically assess quantity, price, and application area

For a 300-liter community tank that needs to be quickly and luxuriantly greened, a mix of In Vitro plants for special areas and larger potted or bundled plants for the mass may be the more reasonable solution.

How to plant without unnecessary losses

Good preparation saves later corrections. For more demanding species, the aquarium should already be ready with running filtration, appropriate lighting, and - if planned - stably adjusted CO2 supply. Adding plants after introducing animals is possible, but in a freshly started planted aquarium, a high plant mass from the beginning helps against nutrient surpluses.

The gel must be completely removed. Small residues are generally not a problem, but can locally introduce unnecessary organic material. Afterwards, the plants are set with clean tweezers. For stem plants, it is worthwhile not to plant individual shoots too deep. For rosette plants like Cryptocorynes, the growing point must not completely disappear into the substrate.

In the first two to three weeks, consistency is more important than activism. A reduced lighting duration at the beginning, regular water changes, and fertilization appropriate to the plant stock facilitate acclimatization. Dead leaves should be removed, while new shoots should be left to grow undisturbed. Those who drastically change lighting, fertilizer, and CO2 daily make it difficult for plants and the aquarium to find a stable balance.

Tropica In Vitro plants are an excellent choice for aquarists who want to start in a controlled manner. They are particularly well suited for nano aquariums, shrimp tanks, aquascapes, and tanks where specific plants are to be precisely placed on roots, stones, or in the foreground. Even after an algae or snail problem, the sterile plant form can be useful for a fresh start.

They are less suitable if a large aquarium with a small budget needs to look completely overgrown in the shortest possible time. In that case, plant quantity, growth speed, and acquisition costs should be carefully compared. Fast-growing background planting often provides more benefits in the initial phase than a few expensive specialty plants.
